UNSEASONABLY warm sunshine gave an added incentive to the island’s motorcyclists to take part in a charity lap of the TT course.

Seventy bikes and their riders assembled at the TT grandstand to complete the lap, which ended with cups of tea at the Creg-ny-Baa pub. Organiser Clare Ledger, who teaches drama at King William’s College, said: ‘It was really good. I was pleased and flabbergasted that so many turned out. I thought we would get about 30 in total.’

The event raised £327, which was donated by the participants on the day, for the charity Get Kids Going!, which supplies specialist sports wheelchairs so disabled children can get involved in sporting events.

On average each chair costs £4,000, so Miss Ledger’s aim is to collect enough to buy one chair. To this end she is also running the London Marathon on April 22 along with her friend, PE teacher Rebekah Pate.

So far she has around £3,000, either donated or pledged to the cause.

‘More people were coming over to us at the Creg and giving us money. It was just a perfect day. It was a nice run over the top, a good atmosphere and a good day,’ she added.

To help people to make donations to the charity she has set up a Just Giving page on the web which supporters can use to give money by accessing the Just Giving site on the internet, then entering Clare’s name.
