The newly-reformed Douglas and Onchan branch of the Isle of Man Anti-Cancer Association raised £1,463 at its ‘French evening’.
The Tickethall at the railway station in Douglas was like Rene Artois’s café in the television comedy programme ’Allo, ’Allo, with French food, decorations, and music provided by Les Hartill on the accordion.
Many of those who went wore French costumes and took part in table games.
Members thanked Tickethall boss Steve Quirk and his staff for making the event possible.
The event was designed for the branch to kick-start its fundraising work in the Douglas and Onchan area. It is now planning towards its next event in the New Year.

The Anti-Cancer Association is involved in various projects in the island, such as the Staywell Clinic (cervical screening), psycho-oncology service (psychology and counselling specifically for people affected by cancer), and cancer awareness on radio.
It also raises money to fund research into cancer, its causes and its treatment; and funds equipment at hospitals in the UK which provide treatment to Manx patients.
