hA charity plane pull has raised more than £1,800.

The event, organised by island-based Citywing and held at its hangar at Ronaldsway Airport, attracted 11 teams, who competed to see who could pull an aircraft 34 metres in the shortest time.

The plane pull raised £1,828 for Crossroads Care, the charity which helps improve the lives of carers and offers practical support and advice, after Barclays doubled the amount brought in on the day through its pound-for-pound matching scheme.

The Barclays team of nine employees gave their all, but lost out when the title was taken by the Robinson’s Fresh Foods team, who covered the distance in just over 16 seconds.

Stuart Nelson, head of corporate and intermediary banking in the Isle of Man, said: ‘I know our team gave their all, and I’d like to commend them for taking part – pulling an aircraft is no mean feat.

‘We are very pleased to have been able to add further support to the event by matching the funds raised pound-for-pound. Crossroads Care was out charity of the year in 2012, so we understand the vital work they do in the Isle of Man and how important money raised by events like this is in allowing them to continue supporting carers and their families.’

Annabel Chambers, PR and fundraising events coordinator at Crossroads Care, said: ‘We are so grateful for the ongoing support that Barclays has given us.

‘Matching funds raised from this event has helped a huge amount to make it more successful than we could have anticipated otherwise.’
