A public meeting with a wide agenda is planned for Saturday by the Isle of Man’s campaigning group TravelWatch.
Air, ferry and bus travel are the principal issues under discussion at the public meeting at the Villa Marina in Douglas.
Airport and harbours director Ann Reynolds will be addressing the meeting on the challenge of running an open skies policy at the airport and a harbour with restricted link-span access.
Group member Dick Clague said: ‘Of particular concern are the island’s air links with London and Scotland with decisions still pending on services to London City next summer. The TravelWatch team will update the audience on any developments and is keen to hear their concerns. Updates will also be offered by TravelWatch civil engineer John Pennington on the latest windfarm developments potentially affecting travel to and from the island.’
On the topic of ferry travel, possible debate on changes to the link span user agreement - with a possible extension up to 2040 - is expected early next year.
Mr Clague said: ‘Is this the best way forward to ensure our lifeline shipping service for the future? Competition is promised for 2014 but will this be a good thing for passengers? We want to share our ideas and would be interested to hear public opinion on this too.’
Public transport fares, location of the new bus station and timely publication of the government’s completed report on the suitability of using the so-called bendy buses in the island are also topics to be discussed.
The meeting is on November 16 starting at 10am, doors open from 9.30am. All are welcome but to help indicate numbers, those coming are asked to use the form on www.travelwatch-isleofman.org Free admission.
