Festival of fun for cycling fans

Cycling fans are in for a treat when the Festival of Cycling comes to Douglas on the North Quay next Saturday (September 7).

The quay is set to be transformed into a celebration of the sport from 2pm to 6pm with entertainment including a King of Sprints Challenge and bike trial displays by stunt team 3Sixty, pictured above.

Douglas town centre manager Michelle O’Malley said: ‘We’re also hoping that people with any weird and wonderful bikes will bring them along.

‘There will also be some commercial suppliers setting up shop on the quay – cycling coach Andrew Roche will be among them – and there’ll be an opportunity to see the bike restoration work of Graih, the Manx-registered charity for the homeless.’

The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company will be bringing 3Sixty to the island. The ferry firm’s chief executive Mark Woodward said: ‘While 3Sixty’s performances feature some tremendous stunts and are hugely entertaining, the riders also promote a serious safety message and inspire cyclists to develop their bike skills.’

The event will take place the day before the Manx Telecom End 2 End mountain bike challenge, which is set to attract hundreds of competitors to the island, making it an exciting couple of days for Manx cycling.
