Fire crews attended a combine harvester blaze in Maughold on Sunday (August 25).

Appliances from Ramsey and Laxey were dispatched to the scene following an emergency call that was received at around 2.15pm.

On arrival the crews found the combine harvester was ‘well alight’ along with 200 metres of freshly cut crops in the field. No injuries were reported. Two firefighters extinguish the blaze which appeared to be confined to the engine compartment. Further teams extinguished the crop fire in the field and doused the surrounding area to prevent the fire spreading.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious and the fire was confined to the engine compartment.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, August 27, fire crews from Kirk Michael and Ramsey were called to a house fire in Glebe Aalin Ballaugh at approximately 11.40am.

On arrival, the occupants had made their way out of the heavily smoke-filled house. A female was treated at the scene by paramedics for shock and slight smoke inhalation.

A thermal image camera located the fire, which was found to be in the area of a log burner. Crews extinguished the fire using a small amount of water and made the area safe.
