THEY are building a green future for island homes.

And now the two directors of Organic Construction Solutions Ltd., Antony Leach and Peter Titterton, have been nominated for a Pride in Mann award for the efforts in promoting the benefits of solar panels, super-insulation and air source heating.

They were nominated by Bill Quigley, of Queen’s Drive West, Ramsey, who has been impressed with the projects the company has worked on.

Nominating the pair in the green category of the awards, he said: ‘OCS is a local builder trying to improve standards by constructing energy efficient houses – with solar hot water panels, triple glazing and double the amount of insulation. It’s good for the environment!’

Bill Quigley took an interest in some of the work the company has done.

Organic Construction Solutions Ltd, based at Hailwood Avenue, Governor’s Hill was set up just over two years ago, but between them its directors have 40 years’ experience in the construction industry.

Antony, 32, of Laxey, who moved to the island from the Burnley area of Lancashire, said: ‘We’re getting really good feedback. People like the work we are doing.’

The pair provide a complete project management service for private clients from design concept through to the fine finishing details. But they also do their own developments.

Their first development in the island was Kerrowdhoon Cottage, a new build on the hills overlooking Dhoon Glen, which boasts triple glazing throughout, ‘space- age’ thermal blanketing and an air source recirculation system ensures that what little energy is required to heat the home is effectively distributed around the living spaces.

The pair have also just completed a project at Apple Tree Grove, on Jurby Road in Ramsey, which was done as a joint venture and another scheme is due to start at a property in Cregneash.

They are also set to purchase a plot at Mount Murray, Santon, with the aim of building a first-time buyer home.

Their ultimate goal is to construct a truly ‘passive’ house, one where the heating bills are reduced to close to zero.

Antony said: ‘I got a gas bill for £165 in January – I’ve never seen a bill like that before. That’s what comes of being a small island you can’t expect things to be as cheap.

‘Our aim is to build a passive house where bills could be reduced to just £30 a year.

‘A lot clients want solar panels and to install air source heating. But you have to look at the long term if you’re investing in these things.’
