SHOULD the Chief Minister make a statement to Tynwald after each British Irish Council Summit Meeting?
That was the question posed by Speaker of the House of Keys Steve Rodan in Tynwald this week when he asked Chief Minister Allan Bell if he would make a statement following the most recent meeting held at Dublin Castle in mid-January. Mr Rodan wanted to know whether following future meetings a statement would automatically be made at the next sitting of Tynwald.
Mr Bell said a press release had been circulated to members and the media following the January BIC meeting.
He said government attended many meetings and summits of importance and it might be an idea to look at whether each one warranted a Tynwald statement or otherwise.
Mr Rodan pointed out statements were made at Stormont and the Welsh Assembly following the BIC meeting to which Mr Bell said different jurisdictions always tackled things differently.
