The island’s firefighters are not part of a dispute which has seen The Fire Brigades Union balloting its members for strike action in the UK.
Chief fire officer Kevin Groom confirmed: ‘At the present time, it’s a UK-only dispute.’
He said that Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service fire fighters’ pay and pensions were not linked with their UK counterparts. In the UK, firefighters are being balloted for strike action in a dispute with the government over pension reform. The military would not be able to step in and provide support, so in some areas, reserve personnel are being recruited.
