EDDIE Teare was due this morning to deliver his first Budget as Treasury Minister.
This year’s Budget is being billed as the toughest one for a generation - and some cuts seem certain.
The government is looking to rebalance its finances over four years in the wake of the renegotiation of our VAT deal, the UK’s raid on revenues resulting in government income being cut by a third from next year.
Many government departments are likely to see their budgets reduced. And already education chiefs have announced the closure of 11 state-run pre-schools, the Family Library, the Mobile Library and Bride School.
Mr Teare’s Budget statement will be published in full on iomtoday when he completes his speech this morning.
