Friends prepare to walk the Great Wall of China

Two friends are to walk the Great Wall of China to raise money for charity.

Michelle Clark, of Nursery Avenue, Onchan, is planning to raise money for the Hospice, while friend Margaret Swindlehurst will raise money for the Children’s Centre.

Michelle said she wanted to raise money in memory of her old music teacher, John Nelson.

‘We wanted to do something a bit different,’ she said.

The pair are turning 50.

Michelle, who is an administration officer at Department of Health’s Crookall House, got to Andreas on the Parish Walk.

Margaret, who is the service lead for district nurses, completed it.

They have organised lots of fundraising events and held a cake sale in Ramsey Town Hall, raising £450.

The walk is in April 2014 so during 2013 will see them organise car boot sales, bingo nights, music events, quiz nights and dress down days to name a few.

The ladies also held bucket collections during TT by going around The Creg and the Grandstand raising £111.

Margaret also worked four shifts at the Railway pub in Union Mills and is donating her wages to the charities.
