There has been a slight fall in unemployment in the Isle of Man.

The latest statistics from the Treasury’s economic affairs division reveal that there are 1,056 registered unemployed in the island.

That’s a fall of 16 on the month before.

The island’s unemployment rate - 2.4 per cent - compares well internationally.

In the UK it’s 7.8 per cent, in the USA it’s 7.6 per cent, Republic of Ireland 13.6 per cent, Germany 5.3 per cent, and Spain 26.8 per cent.

Included in the registered unemployed include eight needing work permits, 42 under 18 years of age and 35 claiming credits only.

Not included are 33 people under 18 who are registered with the careers office but who aren’t claiming benefits.

During June 228 people registered unemployed, while 244 left the register.

At the end of the month, there were 474 vacancies at the Job Centre.
