Rider killed in S100 practice crash named as local man

The rider who died last night following a crash during practice for the Southern 100 motorcycle racing event has been named.

Douglas man David Jukes, aged 46, leaves a partner, Cath, and a young son, Stephen.

Details of the incident, which occurred on the approach to Ballakeighan Corner on the Billown Course at around 7.15pm, are still unclear.

A statement from the organisers said: ‘The Southern 100 MCRC, organisers of the Southern 100 International Road Races, regrets to announce the death of David Jukes, from Douglas, Isle of Man, following an incident at Ballakaighan during the 600cc practice session. Southern 100 Racing extends its sincere condolences to families, relatives and friends at this very sad time.’
