Guides and Scouts selected to take part in the Tynwald Day ceremony will now wear a new Tynwald Badge thanks to the creative talents of three young people.

Lucy Pendlebury of Garwick Senior Section, Melissa Scale of Ballaugh Guides and Emily Unsworth of 1st Viking Troop Malew were joint winners of a competition inspired by Island Commissioner for Guides Sharon Lanigan and Island Commissioner for Scouts Peter Young to design a new joint Tynwald Badge to be worn by members of both movements.

The three were among a group given a tour of the Tynwald Chambers led by the President of Tynwald Clare Christian, who presented Emily, Lucy and Melissa with certificates in recognition of their creative input to the badge which incorporates design elements from each of their winning entries.

Mrs Christian, who is a former Island Commissioner for Guides, said: ‘This new badge will serve as a fitting honour for those Guides and Scouts chosen to be part of the Tynwald Day ceremony.

‘The design, with its strong sense of Manx identity, is yet another example of the wealth of creative talent among our young people.

‘Emily, Lucy and Melissa are to be congratulated on their artistic efforts, which will add to the colour and pageantry of our national day celebrations.’
