The only pub in St John’s has shut and is unlikely to re-open in time to cash in on what’s usually its busiest day in the year.

Today’s Manx Independent reveals why.

On the front page, the Independent reports on an employment tribunal for drivers involved in the long-running bus dispute.

The paper also talks to the chairman of a Ramsey-based shipping company about the reasons behind its likely closure.

There’s another pub story on page 3. We visit a pub that’s planning to celebrate Christmas Day tomorrow (Tynwald Day).

On page 4, we look at plans to rejuvenate part of Douglas promenade.

We also report the latest on the reaction to the news revealed in the Examiner this week {http://www.iomtoday.co.im/news/isle-of-man-news/ba-to-cut-flights-from-island-to-london-1-5812178|Click here for a reminder} about British Airways cutting flights to and from the Isle of Man from London City.

In political news, we report on an MHK who is calling for a government minister to resign.

In our action-packed sports section, we have the TT triathlon results.

The paper also includes a special supplement this week. Every year we work with the Department of Education and Children to run a competition for children to design advertisements. It contributes to the national curriculum.

We show the best ones this week.

The Manx Independent includes the Isle of Man’s two-page what’s on guide and is on sale now.
