The annual Queenie Festival will take place in Port St Mary this weekend.

This celebration of the sea kicks off with a ceilidh at Alfred Pier from 7.30pm to 10.30pm on Friday, June 28 and there is a Herring Dance, also at the quay, from 7.30pm to 10.30pm on Saturday, June 30. Tickets are £10 for each event or £15 for both and available from Thompson Travel in Port Erin, Quine and Cubbon in Port St Mary, Peter Norris in Douglas, Shakti Man in Ramsey or from Aubrey Brookes by phoning 458894.

There will be a range of activities to keep visitors amused from 11am to 5pm on Saturday, June 29 and Sunday, June 30, including cookery demonstrations, Manx Widlife Trust marine wildlife touch tanks, free coaching by professional anglers.

EMCS Bay Challenge – a mile long swim – starting from Chapel Beach in the port will take place at 4pm on Saturday.

Over the weekend there will also be junior sailing and keelboats to see. There will also be a kayaking fishing competition.

The Manx Model Boat Club will have a pond for children to have a go at skippering a boat.

Also there are to be market stalls selling a variety of goods, such as jewellery, art crafts and woven baskets.

Visitors to the festival will be able to take advantage of a park and ride service. Motorists can park at the Stonefield Farm (on the way into the village) and get a ride to the heart of the action thanks to members of the Southern Nomads Rugby Club, which is providing the service to help its charity SPort Erin, which is raising funds for a permanent pitch as well as funds to provide sport and sporting facilities in the south and to encourage the ongoing participation in rugby.
