Manx boy flown back to the UK after accident in Turkey

A 10-year-old boy from the island is being flown back to the UK for further hospital treatment after he was run over by a car while on a family holiday in Turkey.

It was reported by the Daily Mail that Mark Lalor-Smith, of Foxdale, was in danger of losing both his legs in the accident.

But Mark Kelly, chief executive of the Department of Home Affairs, where the boy’s father Julian works as director of legislation and administration, said this was not the case.

Mr Kelly told the Manx Independent: ‘We can confirm Julian’s son was involved in a serious accident while on holiday in Turkey.

‘The most recent reports of the boy’s injuries are more encouraging and he is being flown to Alder Hey hospital for further treatment and his family is travelling with him.’

For a longer report, see today’s Manx Independent.
