A summer of social and fun-based touch rugby events have been scheduled around the island.
Manx Sport and Recreation’s rugby development officer Ian Williams said the programme of the non-contact version of the game is ‘all about having fun, enjoying a run around and socialising with like-minded people’.
Everyone can take part and it is aimed at attracting teams in the corporate, business, family and work sectors, and is open to men, women and people of all abilities.
In the interests of fairness, only two current rugby players are allowed in each team, with teams being six-a-side on the pitch with a squad size of ten.
There is pre-tournament training on offer for those that would like to try it before entering.
There are six rounds in the tournament held at three venues, they are: Ramsey Rugby Club at Mooragh Park on June 12, Douglas Rugby Club at Port-E-Chee near Quaterbridge on June 26, and Vagabonds Rugby Club at Ballafletcher next to Noble’s Hospital in Braddan on July 10.
The second round stops in on Douglas Rugby Club on July 24, Ramsey Rugby Club on August 7, and Vagabonds Rugby Club on August 21.
There is an entry fee of £100 per team, which covers the whole team for all six events. There is free food, refreshments and a rugby ball for each team.
Garry Vernon is the main contact, he can be contacted on 499600 or garryvernon@manx.net
