There are no plans to charge insurance companies for the recovery of medical costs for riders injured in motorbike accidents who are not covered by the reciprocal health agreement.
The suggestion came in Tynwald from Speaker Steve Rodan.
Health Minister David Anderson said in a written reply that while there were no plans to charge insurance companies, his department was waiting for legislation to be drafted to allow it recover some of the NHS costs of treating people who have been injured in a road accident and have subsequently received compensation from a culpable third party.
The proposed legislation is based on similar legislation already in place in the UK.
