Bank branches to merge as RBS is rebranded

The National Westminster Bank on Prospect Hill, Douglas, is to shut in August.

It will merge with the Royal Bank of Scotland International branch on Victoria Street, which is rebranding as NatWest.

Since the bank crisis in 2008, when the UK taxpayer had to rescue RBS, the owner of NatWest and the Isle of Man Bank, RBS has decided to emphasise the NatWest brand, although bosses deny that RBS itself is a ‘toxic’ brand.

Bill Shimmins, island director of RBS International, said: ‘The newly-refurbished Victoria Street branch will provide service for customers of both NatWest and RBS International and be staffed by our existing NatWest and RBS International teams.

‘The new branch at Victoria Street will offer everything that Prospect Hill does and more. Customers will be greeted by the same staff along with some new faces.

‘There are no planned redundancies as a result of this decision.’
