The Liberal Vannin party has weighed into the debate about the clergyman who refused to let a property to a couple because they were lesbians.
A statement from the party reads: ‘Liberal Vannin welcomes the Chief Minister’s public announcements concerning the introduction of an Equality Act into legislation for the Isle of Man.
‘This party has long advocated the importance of government preventing all forms of discrimination across the whole of our community. In the UK, the Equality Act incorporates the Disability Discrimination Act and this will hopefully also be the case on the island.
‘We believe that an Equality Act forms an essential part of good government in any society committed to the establishment and preservation of equal rights for all, irrelevant of their age, race, sex, disability, beliefs or lifestyle preferences.
‘We will support the Chief Minister for the swift implementation of an Equality Act to serve the Manx nation.’
