Infrastructure Minister David Cretney has announced who’ll do what in his department after the reshuffle.
The reshuffle moved members to different departments but didn’t affect ministers.

Members of departments are given specific areas on which to concentrate.
In the DoI, the responsibilities are:
Harbours and airport: Mr Cretney
Highways: Leonard Singer MHK (Ramsey)
Operations and properties: John Houghton MHK (Douglas North)
Health and Safety Inspectorate and local authorities: Richard Ronan MHK (Castletown)
Planning and building control division and chairman of the planning committee: Laurence Skelly MHK (Rushen).
Howard Quayle MHK (Middle) and retired MLC David Callister have left the department.
Mr Singer and Mr Skelly will work alongside the Minister and existing members, Mr Houghton and Mr Ronan, who retain their previous areas of responsibility, with Mr Houghton now taking on delegated responsibility for operations as well as properties.
‘I would like to thank Mr Quayle and Mr Callister for all their efforts in the last few years, and the terrific contribution both have made to the work of the department,’ Mr Cretney said. ‘Mr Callister was very supportive of the outbound X-ray and baggage facility project, keeping on top of delivery dates, and he placed great importance on customer service matters at the airport.
‘He showed a keen interest in the safe and effective running of all of the island’s harbours, introduced a new Harbours Act in 2010 and commissioned the writing of the first new Harbour Byelaws for more than a century.
‘Mr Quayle was highly influential in ensuring that the Area Plan for the South progressed through Tynwald earlier this year and his other contributions to Planning are also worthy of mention. For the last 18 months Mr Quayle has been an able and enthusiastic chair of planning, as well as encouraging the progression of a number of key legislative projects, all of which will assist in the future development in the Isle of Man.’
Mr Quayle and Mr Ronan have joined the Department of Economic Development.
They join Mr Skelly and Alan Crowe MLC and Tony Wild MLC.
Their responsibilities are:
Laurence Skelly: tourism and motorsport
Richard Ronan: business development,including e-business, information and communication technology, manufacturing, retail, film and media and attracting and assisting high value individuals. He is also responsible for energy policy; clean technology and biotechnology; construction; mines and minerals and the Department’s properties.
Howard Quayle: Aircraft Registry; Ship Registry; e-gaming; space.
Alan Crowe retains delegated responsibility for financial services and the companies registry.
Tony Wild retains delegated responsibility for the Employment and Skills Group and the Information Systems Division (ISD). Employment and Skills Group’s responsibilities include areas such as training services, the Job Centre, careers service and work permits.
The DED Minister is John Shimmin MHK.
He said: ‘I would like to thank Geoff Corkish and Alex Downie for their tremendous contribution to the department over many years and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with them since becoming Minister.
‘As member with responsibility for tourism and motorsport Geoff Corkish oversaw the launch of the new strategy for tourism and the visitor economy last year which is already demonstrating tangible results.
‘Motorsport continues to go from strength to strength with the world famous TT Races now being viewed around the world on TV and with 2013 seeing the inaugural Isle of Man Festival of Motorcycling.
‘Alex Downie has been instrumental in driving the success and profile of our emerging sectors such as e-gaming, aviation management and space, as well as for more established sectors such as maritime through his responsibilities with the Isle of Man Ship Registry.
‘He has helped lay the foundations for success in all of these sectors in which the Isle of Man is now widely regarded as being among the best in the world. This has been key to the development of a diverse economy, its continuous growth and delivered a positive profile for the island.’
Geoff Corkish MLC and David Quirk (Onchan) have joined the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure.
Mr Corkish will take on responsibility for community, culture and arts, including becoming chair of the Isle of Man Arts Council and head up the 2014 Island of Culture.
Mr Quirk MHK has been delegated responsibility for the Wildlife Park and Manx National Heritage.
The Department of Community, Culture and Leisure promotes and facilitates leisure, arts, recreation and sporting activity, with specific responsibility for the management of the Villa Marina and Gaiety Theatre, Curraghs Wildlife Park and National Sports Centre. In addition to managing the island’s major entertainment facilities, the department is responsible for the provision of public transport services.
