Government seeking bus drivers to break strike

The government is looking for anyone with a bus driver’s licence to come forward to help them to break the proposed strike over the TT festival.

They are being asked to register tomorrow (Tuesday) from 2pm to 8pm at the Villa Marina.

A spokesman from the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure said: ‘To assist with the provision of the bus service during the bus driver’s strike at TT, the DCCL is inviting any Manx worker who holds a valid PPV licence to a drop in registration event at the Villa Marina on Tuesday, May 21, any time from 2pm-8pm.

‘To register as a casual bus driver, you will need to bring your valid PPV licence to complete the registration process, confirming that you are available to work from Saturday, May 25, until Wednesday, June 5.’

In today’s Isle of Man Examiner, we ask Nick Black, the chief executive of the DCCL, a number of questions about the dispute.

We also talk to Unite union boss Bobby Morton who denies he is a militant.
