Man dies in diving incident

Police investigations are underway after a 51-year-old man died as a result of a diving incident in the south.

Port Erin RNLI lifeboat ‘Muriel and Leslie’ responded to the call and went to the aid of the diver who was in difficulty.

A spokesperson for Port Erin RNLI, said: ‘The emergency call was given over the distress channel at 11.47am and once the location was heard, the lifeboat that was exercising close to the area of the casualty vessel rushed to give assistance.’

The man who was aboard a dive craft off the southern tip of the Calf of Man was found to be suffering diving related injuries.

He was transferred to the Atlantic 85 lifeboat and was given medical aid throughout the return trip to Port Erin jetty where the boat was met by ambulance personnel and coastguards.

The casualty was then taken by ambulance to Noble’s Hospital.
