Minister hopeful of redeployment of all nurture teachers

Two of the 11 nurture teachers facing redundancy under moves to reorganise its provision have been redeployed as teachers.

Education Minister Tim Crookall said he was ‘still hopeful’ the remaining staff would all be redeployed as further vacancies are anticipated.

In March, it was announced that schools with stand-alone teacher-led nurture groups would be replaced by a ‘whole school’ approach, using only education support staff as additional support.

Teaching unions have previously expressed their concern about the speed of the changes, and their possible impact.

Mr Crookall said: Teachers understand what we are doing. This is not about cost. Money saved will stay within this area.’

Nurture teachers are being given the opportunity to gain experience in mainstream classrooms.
