Tribute has been paid to popular Peel resident and dedicated charity worker Iris King, who died on Friday at the age of 93.
In a statement from the ManxSPCA, it says her death will ‘leave a gap in many people’s lives’ and ‘brings to an end an era of hard work, generosity and friendship’.
Iris had a history of helping others and created history as one of the first women on the floor of the London Stock Exchange.
While living in London with her second husband, she organised charity events raising thousands of pounds.
She ran a stockbroking business in the Isle of Man, broadcasting daily on Manx Radio in the 1980s.
When she retired she started fundraising for the ManxSPCA.
The tribute continues: ‘For 14 years visitors to Ard Jerkyll at the weekends will have seen Iris controlling her empire in the reception area and running what she called “her little shop” which again, brought in much needed funds.’
She also supported charities such as the Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes.
Iris will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
