Police say they believe the man who was found dead inside a burnt-out car at the Point of Ayre was 58-year-old accountant David McLeman, from Glen Mona.
Due to the condition of the body, full identification can only be done scientifically, which will take further time.
Mr McLeman was born in Scotland and settled in the island with his wife and three children in 1996.
A police spokesman said: ‘There is no reason to suggest that there are any suspicious circumstances and police are not looking for anyone in relation to this tragic death.
‘It is very important that the public refrain from any undue speculation.
‘While it is understood that the public do have an interest in this matter, any misinformation could be very upsetting for the family and friends.
‘Police are supporting the family of Mr McLeman through this difficult time and a trained family liaison officer has been appointed from the outset.’
Police still want to hear from any person who was in the area of the Point of Ayre between 7pm and 8pm on Tuesday, April 9.
The vehicle concerned was a silver Mercedes C220 saloon.
It is known that Mr McLeman left his home address at about 2pm that date and was in the Ramsey area about 4pm.
Police issued a further appeal to witnesses who were in contact or had seen him during that afternoon or early evening.
Mr McLeman is softly spoken, with a Scottish accent and has hearing difficulties. His hair is predominately greyer than that in the photograph above.
Police thanked members of the public for coming forward and assisting inquiries so far.
Detective Sergeant Brian Shimmin, who is leading the investigation, also thanked his police colleagues, fire and rescue personnel and other services involved for the high level of professionalism and dedication provided.
A full file of the findings will be provided to The Coroner of Inquests.
