STAFF at Mothercare have been doing their bit to raise money for Noble’s Hospital’s maternity unit.
Last week staff at the store, in the Strand Shopping Centre, Douglas, presented midwives with a cheque for £134.
The money is going to The Jane’s Big Push, a nine-month campaign spearheaded by the charity With Women Worldwide and backed by Isle of Man Newspapers.
The campaign’s aim is to raise £20,000 which will be used by midwives working to refurbish two rooms on the labour ward into a home-from-home birthing room.
Research from the National Childbirth Trust and Royal College of Midwives shows a non-labour ward environment can provide a more calming and relaxing environment for women to give birth in, enabling a more positive and enjoyable experience.
Meanwhile, tickets are on sale for the next fundraising event, a black tie ball taking place at the Mount Murray Hotel and Country Club, in Santon, on May 4.
The event, being held jointly with The Manx Diabetic Group, starts at 7.30pm with a champagne reception.
It will be followed by a carvery and dancing until late. There will also be an auction of quality goods and a raffle.
For tickets (£40) call Anne Graham (491370), Dianne Rubery (436036) or Jane Shutt (317237).
