COUPLES are being urged to take part in a special day before they get married or embark on a civil partnership.
Marriage by Design, an event that looks beyond the fairytale wedding, is coming to Corrin Hall, Peel Cathedral, on May 4 from 10am to 4pm.
Developed by charity Care for the Family, it gives couples some time out to think about the realities of life after their big day.
‘When you get back from honeymoon, real life kicks in, says event coordinator, Maddie Porter. ‘That’s not to say that the romance of the relationship suddenly disappears, but it’s important to look beyond the wedding and be aware of how to handle the sorts of issues that can put a long-term relationship under stress.
‘Happy and healthy marriages don’t happen simply because of “good luck”.’
The event costs £20 per couple, which includes lunch, refreshments and take-home booklets.
