Charity lunch provides boost for dialysis patients

A CHARITY lunch has raised more than £640 to fund extra comforts for kidney dialysis patients.

Daphne Cooke from Colby who organised the lunch for around 30 people said she was delighted by its success and grateful to everyone who had supported and helped with the event.

She said: ‘The Jack Quirk Renal Care Fund is a charity to give patients things that they don’t get in hospital but give a bit of extra comfort because they can be on dialysis for four hours at a time, three times per week.’

A talk was given at the lunch by charge nurse at the renal unit, Jason Glover. There was also a raffle and donations of gifts or vouchers came from various companies including Heron and Brearley, Shoprite and other shops around Port Erin. Entertainment came in the form of Peter Cringle who sang, accompanied by Gill Harvey.

Mrs Cooke said she also wanted to thank Sir Miles and Lady Mary Walker who were kind enough to offer the use of their house as the venue.

‘We got £605 on the day which I think is very good from 30 people, and we are still accepting donations if anyone would like to contribute,’ she said.
