THE latest Beach Buddies Big Team Beach Clean, at Castletown Bay on Sunday, proved another major success.

Volunteers collected 35 bags of rubbish, as well as lots of large plastic canisters and a pile of fishing equipment, including some old, and very rusty, lobster pots.

In addition, another 11 bags of rubbish were later collected by the same group at nearby Derbyhaven Bay, covering the entire beach in front of the houses.

Organiser Bill Dale said: ‘There were 32 volunteers, and it was great to see some new faces.

‘In particular, it was really good to see a group from Castletown Heritage who joined us for the first time and left with smiles on their faces – so we hope you enjoyed yourselves!

‘It was another great day. The next southern beach clean will be in a fortnight’s time.’

Beach Buddies will be targeting Ballaugh Cronk this Sunday (March 3), meeting at 10.30am in the car park.

Litterpickers, gloves and bin bags will be supplied, and Beach Buddies will dispose/recycle rubbish afterwards. Volunteers are urged to wear decent walking boots.
