A MOTORIST hit the chevron road signs on the main road between Baldrine and Laxey overnight on Wednesday/Thursday.
The police say the incident happened near the junction with Packhorse Lane.
The damage is extensive and appears to have been caused by the vehicle in question mounting the hedge, and striking the signage. It is thought that the vehicle would have suffered severe damage.
Constable Jenette Martin said: ‘Initial inquiries into the debris left at the scene leads us to think that the vehicle involved in this incident is a Volkswagen Golf.
‘Enquires are ongoing to trace this car. In the mean time I would ask that if you witnessed this collision, or indeed are the driver, that you come forward.
‘Likewise we would like to hear from anyone who saw this car being recovered, or now knows its whereabouts to get in touch.
