A CHANCE to see the island’s nature conservation volunteers in action on a range of woodland activities, such as coppicing and making charcoal, willow fences and faggots, is on offer.

The Manx Wildlife Trust is holding a Winter Woodland Workshop at Close Sartfield Nature Reserve from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, February 11.

At this event, the leaders of the junior arm of the Manx Wildlife Trust, Wildlife Watch and members of the Manx Bat Group will also be on hand to help children make nest boxes, bird feeders, willow snails and bat boxes.

Situated in the north-west corner of the Ballaugh Curragh, Close Sartfield may be found by turning off the A3 TT Course onto the B9, taking the third right and following this road (Windmill Road) for just under a mile. There the reserve has an entrance on the right marked by a Manx Wildlife Trust sign. A small car park is available for visitors’ use.

The entrance fee for the Winter Woodland Workshop is £3 per person. Children under 10 years-old will be admitted free of charge and a small charge will be applied for each nestbox, etc. that is made.

All children must be accompanied by an adult and no dogs are permitted onto the reserve.

For more information about Close Sartfield and all of the other local nature reserves owned and managed by the Manx Wildlife Trust, visit the charity’s website at {http://www.manxwt.org.uk|www.manxwt.org.uk}.
