FOLLOWING in the wake of last year’s runaway success, CAMRA is to stage another beer festival for the Isle of Man.
Last year’s event – a first for the Campaign for Real Ale Society in the island – saw Douglas’ masonic hall packed with ale connoisseurs until it finally became a victim of its own success and ran out of beer.
Officially opened by the island’s Lieutenant Governer Adam Wood, who told drinkers he had to consider the engagement for perhaps a matter of seconds before accepting it, the festival also saw the launch of a new beer from Bushy’s.
Bushy’s golden ale marked the 50th anniversary of the TT Marshals’ Association. Fittingly the first pint went to TT Marshals’ chairman Terry Holmes.
A donation of £750 from profits of the golden ale sold at the festival was presented by CAMRA to the TT Marshals’ Association and Bushy’s boss Martin Brunnschweiler added a further £700 from that sold in the pubs.
There will be extra beer this year – more than 100 real ales from around the British Isles, ciders, perries and fruit wines. The festival runs from Thursday 4 to Saturday 6 April at the masonic hall, Douglas.
