JUST under half of the island’s civil service describe themselves as Manx.

In a written reply to a House of Keys question from Laurence Skelly (Rushen), chairman of the Civil Service Commission Alfred Cannan MHK said that of those who had made a nationality declaration at the time of their appointment to the Civil Service, 46.8 per cent described themselves as Manx.

Some 35.6 per cent of the senior civil servants in the corporate leadership group called themselves Manx, 48.6 per cent of executive officers did so as did 57.6 per cent of administrative officers, 46.3 per cent of secretarial grades and 66.7 per cent of trainees.

Mr Cannan said it was likely that a number of Manx civil servants may have described themselves at British.
