A 32-year-old Ramsey man has been convicted of nine offences by a court.
Robert John Thomas, of North Shore Road, pleaded guilty to the nine charges and will be sentenced on August 23 at 10am.
Thomas admitted offences of burglary, taking a vehicle without consent, driving while disqualified, driving with no insurance, driving without due care and attention, failing to stop after a road traffic accident, failing to report an accident, common assault on a female and damaging property.
The court heard how Thomas was disqualified from driving in September 2015 for 12 months.
However, on January 20 at 10.30pm, Thomas entered a friend’s home without permission, while she was upstairs, and took her car keys.
Later, at 11.47pm, his friend’s daughter received a call from him saying that he had taken their Mercedes Benz.
She asked him where he was and the replied that he didn’t know.
The next day, at 8am, the Mercedes was found crashed into a wall in Ramsey.
The car was left unattended and had caused damage to the wall, which was owned by Manx National Heritage, said to be in the region of £1,200.
Thomas was located and arrested but gave a ‘no comment’ response to all questions and made no reply after being cautioned.
In a second incident on May 14, Thomas was said to have burst into his ex-girlfriend’s room at a guesthouse in Ramsey.
Thomas had recently split up with the woman, who was talking to another man in the room.
He walked towards the man and when his ex-partner stood in the way, he pushed the woman onto the bed.
The man tried to call the police but Thomas was said to have grabbed the phone and smashed it against a door.
He was subsequently arrested but denied any assault and claimed that the phone which was broken belonged to him.
The broken phone was said to be worth around £40.
The woman suffered no visible injuries but said that she did have a sore back after the incident.
Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes adjourned the case, to allow time for the preparation of a probation report before sentencing takes place.
No application for bail was made and Thomas was remanded in custody until he is sentenced on August 23.
