This weekend 15 gardens in Peel will open to the public as the town holds its Secret Gardens 2016.
Gardening enthusiasts will be treated to the chance of seeing some of the best kept gardens in Peel on Saturday and Sunday, between 11am and 4pm.
It has been 20 years since the first Secret Gardens event in Peel, which occurs every two years and is organised by Peel Heritage Trust.
The town’s MHK Ray Harmer, who is also chairman of Peel Heritage Trust, said: ‘It is not surprising it has been going on so long in Peel and continues to be so popular. I remember the first one we enjoyed. Everyone was friendly and welcoming.’
Admission is by brochure which costs £2 (one brochure for every visitor but children free), and is available from Peel newsagents.
Each brochure includes a guide map detailing where all the gardens are around Peel.
There will also be a stall at the House of Manannan selling brochures while the gardens are open.
Some gardeners will be selling tea and cakes for charity of their choice.
Gardens in this year’s event include ones at St Peter’s churchyard, Market Square and the Castle Street garden tubs, and The Deanery in Albany Road,
Also among the gardens on show will be Mike and Josie Wade’s at Yn Thie Fuinnee in Beach Street, which also opened during the 2014 event.
Mike said: ‘The biggest changes since 2014 are the addition of houses. We have a hen house, a lovingly up-cycled greenhouse and a Wendy house.
‘The semi-ruined outbuilding at the back of the garden has also been given a roof, making it possibly the biggest garden shed a man could ever want.
‘Gardening-wise we’re still looking for tips and inspiration, though we know that a colourful, meandering and productive garden is our general aim.
‘We’d like people to chip in with ideas and expertise.’
Other people showing their gardens are:
