Sunday is Douglas Carnival Day and members of the council are not only hoping for good weather but also appealing for help from any members of the public who would like to lend a hand marshalling the event.

The parade will start off at 3pm heading down the promenades from Summer Hill and this year will feature a total of 28 entries.

These include a multitude of floats aslong with bands, dance groups, decorated vehicles and classic vehicles along with an eclectic range of other participants and performers.

Participants in the Wheelie Bins ‘Bins of Glory’ race may be relieved to know this year’s course starts from the Douglas War Memorial rather than running the length of the seafront.

The popular Colour Me Rainbow powder paint run, in aid of the hospice will also be taking place again this year.

Among the other attractions will be Douglas Town Band, Onchan Silver Band, a 1967 Leyland bus and a Mad Hatters’ Tea Party.

Councillor Stephen Pitts, chairman of the council’s regeneration committee, said: ‘We are short of people to come and marshal though, so we are meaking a call for marshals.’

Anyone willing to lend a hand will be supplied with a high-visibility tabard by the council. Contact the town hall to offer help.

Carnival prizes are being sponsored by the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company and the public can vote for the people’s favourite on Douglas Council’s Facebook page. The entry with the most ‘Likes’ on the page by 5pm on Monday July 25 will then receive a prize of £250.
