Competitors in this year’s World Tin Bath Championships are reminded that entries close at midnight on Sunday, June 26, which is also the deadline for entries in the snake races.
Anyone wishing to take part and wanting an entry form should contact Dave Collister, 49 Malew Street, Castletown, phone 823996 or 341852.
There are also spare baths available for loan, kindly supplied by Pokerstars.
There are still some places left in this year’s snake race, teams comprise four men and two gírls, snakes are provided; no experience is required.
Also required are intrepid birdmen and women to complete a man-powered circuit of the harbour for the grand prize of £50,000. Organiser Dave said: ‘So use your luffa, get out your bath, you will have a laugh and come down to Castletown, the tin bath racing capital of the world, and help the Castletown Ale Drinking Society raise money for local charities.’
The championships – stariing at 2.30pm on Saturday, July 9 in Castletown middle harbour – have attracted media attention from around the world since first held 45 years ago and the event has been featured in 17 programmes. This year is no different and a German film company Berlin Producers will be in Castletown to capture the soggy shenanigans.
In addition to having lots of fun, the aim is to raise funds for charity and Dave said the total – mainly raised at the tin baths - amounts to almost £200,000.
