Two hotels get licences to host marriage ceremonies

BETROTHED couples who don’t want a church wedding can now tie the knot at an hotel rather than the registry office.

A change in the Manx law last year allowed other venues to apply for a licence to host weddings and two of the island’s hotels have taken advantage of the opportunity.

Three-year civil wedding licences have now been granted to the Sefton Hotel and the Best Western Palace Hotel and Casino in Douglas.

Sefton Group Hotels manager Paul Forrest explained: ‘We’re delighted that both hotels have been granted Approved Place status. We stage many wedding receptions each year, and often couples tell us that, if they could, they’d have been married at the same venue as the reception.’

The Sefton offers three venues varying in size from 40 guests to 130.

The Palace Hotel and Casino offers accommodation for up to 150 guests or 250.

The Sefton Wedding Fair is on February 18 from 1pm to 4pm. Exhibitors will include Balloons To Go, Freedom Travel, Marianne McCourt Photography, Island Chocolate Fountains, Platinum Cars, Shan’s Photography, Steve Woodley Photography, Graih My Chree Stationery and Switched On Entertainment.
