KATHERINE Crowe’s single Smile reached number 12 in the Official Charts Company’s Independent Singles Top 40 yesterday (Sunday).
The singer-songwriter had dreamed of being Christmas number one, but before the results were announced yesterday, she said that even if she didn’t feature in the charts, what had been achieved was through people power alone and was ‘incredible’.
The Manx mother-of-two, who has terminal cancer, received enormous support from the island and further afield, and extensive coverage in UK newspapers and social media.
Smile sold more than 2,500 copies in the 24 hours after it was released and peaked at number 17 in the iTunes download chart.
In doing so, it overtook Adele’s Skyfall and Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas.
Hard copies of the CD arrived in the island last week, and went on sale in a number of venues including HMV.
Katherine, aged 37, said she was very grateful for all the support she has received.
