Sporty youngsters who have encouraged others to get fit and active have been praised for their hard work.
Tim Crookall MLC, Minister for Education and Children praised 43 teenagers for taking part in the Sure Sports Leader Programme last summer.
The group of 16-year-old volunteers attended a week-long camp where they received training from Manx Sport and Recreation (MSR) coaches in coaching skills, safeguarding and protecting children, first aid and teaching and disability inclusion.
Since September, they have volunteered at MSR activities, clubs and schools, recording their hours in logbooks.
Mr Crookall said: ‘They gave up school holidays to volunteer at MSR activities for primary-aged children. All but six of the 43 volunteers completed the programme in full, between them committing 1,365 hours to nurturing other youngsters to play sport.
‘It’s even more impressive that they have fitted this in around school work, exams and their own sporting commitments.’
Sixth former Daniel Richardson, from St Ninian’s High School, won an iPad and a £100 Sure voucher for giving up the most time. He volunteered for 209 hours and was presented his prizes by Edward Shimmin from Sure Isle of Man.
Runner up James McNee received a £75 Sure voucher and third placed Abuu Migoda received a £50 voucher.
