AN hour-long ceremony was held in the grounds of Hospice to mark the erection of the charity’s 25-foot Light up a Life Christmas tree.
It was led by Bishop Robert Paterson and assisted by Hospice chaplain Reverend Lynda Brady.
The Salvation Army and the Hospice Choir performed during the evening.
Hospice fundraiser Roger Faragher said: ‘It was a very brisk and chilly evening, but nonetheless over a hundred people turned out. Because of the biting cold some of the guests had to watch the ceremony from their cars.’
‘The service was all encompassing and relevent for both children and senior citizens who attended.
‘Light up a Life’ is a series of events that take place all over the British Isles during November and December each year. The events are organised by hospices for families and friends come together to remember loved ones.
By sponsoring one of the many hundreds of lights that adorn the branches, the tree provides the opportunity to dedicate a message in memory of a loved one, as a Christmas gift for a friend or family member, or in celebration of an anniversary or birthday.
The ceremony is an opportunity to have quiet time and reflection. For most hospices, ‘Light up a Life’ is one of their best-loved and most meaningful events.
There is still the opportunity to buy one of these lights. Contact fundraising@hospice.org.im or phone 647431 for more information.
