Ramsey Grammar School’s Rural Sciences Unit has been on the road introducing primary school children in the north to farming and food production.
Rural science is a compulsory subject for 11 to 14-year-olds at RGS, and the aim of the event was to smooth the transition for children moving up to the school and to highlight the importance of farming to the island’s economy.
The livestock roadshow, staged in conjunction with the Manx National Farmers’ Union, is pictured at Bunscoill Rhumsaa, ahead of visits to Sulby, Jurby, Laxey and Andreas schools.
The Rural Sciences Unit breeds pigs, sheep and poultry.
And students run the facility in the way they would a farm, caring for and feeding the animals, mucking out and carrying out maintenance.
