Plans for this year’s Isle of Man Film Festival were unveiled at a pre-launch event held six months ahead of the event.

The pre-launch took place at the Victoria Chambers office of Laurence Keenan Advocates & Solicitors, who are one of the festival’s sponsors.

This year sees the return of film critic Mark Kermode who will host the festival’s main events, taking place from September 8 to 11.

French artist and proud Manx resident Bruno Cavellec is also back on board to create the poster design for 2016.

The Claremont Hotel will be the IOMFF16 social hub, and events are planned for the Gaiety Theatre and Broadway Cinema, as well as smaller locations such as the Bath & Bottle in Douglas, Patchwork Café in Port St Mary, and The Trafalgar Hotel in Ramsey.

Festival director Zoe Guilford said organisers hope to build on the success of last year with great events, brilliant special guests, and more fun film stuff going on around the island.

‘We want to build more local interest in the festival this year,’ she said.

‘Our international short film competition is attracting more visitors to the island – which is brilliant for our reputation – but we’d love to engage more of the Manx public too.’

Entries are now open for the short film competition, which last year attracted more than 100 entries when it was opened up to global submissions.

Filmmakers can submit their work – which must be 15 minutes or less – in a number of fiction, comedy, documentary and animation.

At the festival proper, finalist films also screen for the chance to win the Audience Vote Award and the Best of Fest.
