Coroner Jayne Hughes opened and adjourned proceedings into the death of John Barrie Sumner who died in the accident near the Fairy Bridge on January 3.
Evidence from Dr Helen Greig said 46-year-old Mr Sumner, who was known as Barrie, was certified dead at 9am the same day.
Mr Sumner, a seaman with the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company who lived at Westhill Avenue, Castletown, was identified by his half brother Anthony Williams.
A post mortem examination by Dr Ervin Long found death was caused by multiple injuries as a result of a road traffic collision.
Investigations into the accident which happened, on the New Castletown Road at Sunny Orchard, are still continuing and proceedings were adjourned until they are complete.
Mrs Hughes offered her condolences to Mr Sumner’s family.
Mr Sumner was riding a red Honda motorcycle to work when he was involved in the accident with a Vauxhall Zafira. The road was closed for several hours after the accident and police appealed for anyone travelling in the area at about 6.10am to contact them.
