Manx Radio has submitted plans for an extension and internal alterations at Broadcasting House, on Douglas Head.
The aim of the works included in the application (16/00105/B) is to provide a ‘fit for purpose broadcasting facility for staff and visitors’.
In a statement by Ellis Brown Architects as part of the bid states: ‘This scheme should provide the workspace necessary to allow staff to carry out their duties efficiently in an appropriate working environment with suitable welfare facilities, disabled toilets and disabled access throughout the building, installation of emergency and energy-efficient lighting, improved fire containment measures and the addressing of office space lost through the construction of the new staircase/fire escape.’
The plan also includes refurbishing the newsroom and providing additional car parking.
The extension would be built next to, and linking with, the stairwell.
The site is an area of sloping land between Broadcasting House and the station’s car park.
This would then become the main entrance, with a reception and waiting area.
