A Crosby woman has had her head shaved to help provide real hair wigs for children suffering from cancer.

Alice McGirr, aged 32, had her long locks shaved at the Rovers Return Pub in Douglas and then underwent a complete wet shave at the Baltic Inn, Foxdale.

Alice’s hair will be sent to the Little Princess Trust, a charity which provides real hair wigs for children who have suffered hair loss from cancer treatment.

‘I have got so much hair I thought it was a waste to bin it so I started looking online and came across The Little Princess Trust and I thought it was absolutely perfect,’ she said.

‘The whole experience was OK but right now my head is really itchy. It didn’t feel as bad as I thought it was going to be, so getting the hair shaved was fine – it was a bit surreal getting my head wet shaved though.’

As well as her hair donation Alice has raised around £2,000 for the charity through sponsorship, donations on her fundraising page and a bucket collection on the day of her head shave.

Charity manager at the Little Princess Trust, Monica Glass, said: ‘We are so grateful to Alice for everything that she is doing to support the charity. To donate her hair is one thing, but to go one step further and have her head shaved is very brave.

Donations can still be made to Alice’s fundraising at www.mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/alicemcgirr1
