Manx Gas’s standing charge hike, free TV licences for the over 75s and privatisation of the Villa-Gaiety were among concerns raised at the monthly meeting of the Manx Labour Party.
Members agreed that David Cretney MLC should follow up issues including Manx Gas’s standing charge bands with concerns that any reduction in tariffs could be academic until consumers are aware of which banding category they are in.
Treasury Minister Eddie Teare will be asked to clarify the situation over TV licences for the over-75s.
And members also discussed the current debate on smaller government in the context of the Villa Marina and Gaiety Theatre potential privatisation – both of which it was felt make significant contributions to the quality of life on the island. The party wanted to ensure this was not simply about reducing salaries.
The next monthly meeting will be on Thursday, February 4, at 7pm at South Douglas Old Friends Club.
