The Manx Scouts and Girl Guides will be bringing The Peace Light flame from Bethlehem to the Isle of Man as part of the international Peace Light campaign.
This will be the second time the light has been brought to the island and five members of the Manx Scouts, Sea Scouts, Explorers, Guides and Senior Section will bring the flame to Manx shores on December 19.
The Peace Light is kept alight throughout the Christmas period to symbolise international peace and unity.
The campaign first started in 1986 when an Austrian child was chosen to light a candle from the Eternal Flame in Bethlehem, The candle, still lit, was then taken to Austria and distributed throughout the country.
Now the flame is taken to countries around the world by the Scouts and Girl Guides.
On December 19 a Service of Distribution will take place at St Mary’s Church, Douglas, at 2pm, where members of the Scout and Girl Guide Associations will take the Peace Light into their own communities.
The service is open to everyone who wish to attend and Peace Light candles will be on sale.
Last year the flame visited over 50 island organisations including churches, Commissioners’ offices, residential homes, individuals and Noble’s Hospital.
If anybody would like the Peace Light to visit their organisation contact Julie Leece on jjwd@hotmail.co.uk or call the Scout and Girlguiding Association on 264499.
